Quality performance parts and accessories, prompt, courteous service, and fair pricing were important in 1964, when the company started as a part time venture in George Lane's tiny garage. Today these attributes still guide day to day operations at Lane Automotive and Motor State Distributing.
A hot rodder all his life, George initially made the transition from street involvement to drag racing in the late 1950's, building and racing a series of dragsters. Racing time tapered off as the speed shop business prospered, but no matter how busy he got, George remained faithful to his hot rodding roots.
Today, George Lane and his wife Janet still maintain an interest in the company, but sons, Doug and Dave, have assumed the primary executive roles in the family-owned business. Doug Lane oversees the company's sales, purchasing and marketing functions. Dave Lane manages the warehousing departments at Motor State which include receiving, shipping and inventory control.
Over two thirds of Motor State's 153,000 square foot complex is devoted to warehousing. With over 80,000 part numbers in stock, from over 570 performance equipment manufacturers, the product mix is diverse enough that a complete race car can be built strictly from parts stocked within the warehouse. Over 22 linear miles of shelving, on two levels, provide adequate space to allow the company to take maximum advantage of volume purchase incentives. This assures that items are always in stock for immediate shipment, saving the company money and, more importantly, allowing these savings to be passed on to customers in all corners of the world.
Fast, friendly, efficient and experienced sales professionals routinely field hundreds of calls every day from customers all over the world. Members of the Motor State domestic and international sales force speak from personal experience and can quickly and capably answer technical questions and make recommendations on specialized parts.
Motor State employees share a deep sense of pride in an order fill rate second to none in the aftermarket industry. The Motor State Shipping Department works around the clock, in three shifts, to assure that the majority of orders are shipped the same day they are received.
In addition to shipping via major parcel delivery services, Motor State fields a fleet of eight modern delivery vans that run on dedicated routes to serve customers in five Midwestern states and Canada.
With the exclusive Motor State Price Guide Pro software, available at a nominal charge, customers can reference warehouse inventory and pricing information right from their computers.
Motor State's modern in-house Advertising and Publications Department creates nine specialty product catalogs, sale flyers, advertising copy and newsletters. All publications are available as hard copies or on line for downloading. Customers have the option of purchasing customized copies of these catalogs with their own business logos and information on the cover.
